Clovis Community College offers an Associate in Science Administration of Justice degree with a concentration in criminology. The program prepares students to transfer into four-year degree programs at any California State University campus. The curriculum studies the cause, consequences, and control of crime with a focus on either law enforcement or corrections, although it could be used to prepare for a career in the legal field.
CCC also offers an Associate of Science in Criminology – Corrections designed for those who wish to enter a police academy or who wish to work in the court system, probation and parole or the legal industry. All courses must be passed with a “C” or better and the program requires 27 units. The program provides students with an understanding of the criminal justice system. Graduates gain an understanding of the constitutional framework.
The Associate of Science in Criminology with a concentration in law enforcement prepares students for jobs in criminology, law enforcement and other law-related fields. The curriculum concentrates more on the law enforcement aspect of the legal industry, preparing graduates for careers as police officers, correctional officers or probation and patrol.
For online learners, the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Legal Assistant Studies prepares future paralegals for careers in helping attorneys with the day-to-day functions of running a law office. The 66-credit program can be completed in as little as five semesters.
The Certificate of Achievement in Criminology Program prepares those who are interested in careers in criminology, law enforcement or the law. The program provides students with the tools and knowledge necessary to apply for entry-level positions in law enforcement. It is important to note that any individual who wishes to enter employment in the criminal justice system in the state of California cannot have a felony conviction, cluster of driving offenses, history of drug abuse, bad credit or be of “bad character.”
About Clovis Community College
In 1992, Clovis Community College established a third site of North Centers, joining Madera and Oakhurst. In 2007, what was then known as the Clovis Center moved to Willow Avenue and International Avenue. At that time, it was renamed the Willow International Community College Center.
In 2012, Madera and Oakhurst disassociated with Clovis and Willow International Community College Center received accreditation under Reedley College. In 2014, the name of the school was changed to Clovis Community College.
Clovis Community College Accreditation Details
Clovis Community College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Accreditation indicates that the college undergoes periodic evaluations to confirm that programs offered to students meet the criteria of the Commission. The school agrees to address any areas that the Commission identifies as needing improvement during the evaluation. In addition, programs throughout the college may be accredited by industry-specific organizations.
Clovis Community College Application Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and either have graduated from high school or be a junior or senior in high school. High school students must have the permission of their parents to apply. Applicants must complete an application for admission and official high school transcripts. Applicants must also complete an online orientation and an assessment for course placement.
Clovis Community College Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition at Clovis Community College is $46 per unit for California residents and $258 per unit for out-of-state students.
Financial aid is available and designed to help students meet the cost of education. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to qualify for any financial assistance.
Grant aid is available and students may qualify for Federal Pell Grants and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants which are based on financial need. Federal Work Study programs which provide employment to offset the cost of education are also available. Students may also qualify for Federal Direct Student Loans. In order to qualify for loans, individuals must be enrolled in a minimum six-units of coursework.
State financial aid is also available as well. The California College Promise Grant allows individuals to waive enrollment fees. The Cal Grant is determined by the California Student Aid Commission in cooperation with the school. Awards are based on merit and require a 3.0 GPA or higher. Scholarships are also available.
Clovis Community College offers many options for adult students who may face obstacles to attending classes like traditional students. Classes are offered in flexible evening and weekend formats. In addition, Clovis Community College offers online classes which are delivered entirely through the internet or students may choose hybrid classes which combine traditional classroom learning with online classes.
