Herzing University offers an Associate of Science in Legal Assisting/Paralegal, Associate of Applied Science in Legal Studies, and Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. After completion of the programs students will have the ability to describe the United States legal system, understanding the functions of paralegals and legal assistants, assess ethical decision making practical in legal settings, and show a mastery of standard technology tools used in legal environments.
The Associate of Science in Legal Assisting/Paralegal provides students with the knowledge and skills to work in the legal field under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Students learn to assist with legal office administration, research, and brief preparation. A total of 66 credit hours are needed to complete the program. The courses include Introduction to Legal Assisting, Legal Research, Contract Law, Family Law, Torts, Ethics and Paralegal Professionalism, Law Office Procedures, Civil Litigation, Legal Writing, and NALA Certification Review. Graduates of the program are prepared to take the Certified Paralegal and Certified Legal Assisting examinations administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants.
The Associate of Science/Associate of Applied Science in Legal Studies provides students with an understanding on the different types of law and students gain the necessary skills to conduct legal research and prepare legal documents. A minimum of 63 credits are needed to finish the degree. The courses include Introduction to Legal Assisting, Legal Research, Contract Law, Family Law, Torts, Ethics and Paralegal Professionalism, Law Office Procedures, Civil Litigation, Legal Writing, and NALA Certification Review. Students who complete the program are qualified to sit for the Certified Paralegal and Certified Legal Assisting Examinations administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants.
The Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies provides students with an advanced understanding of law. It incorporates core business courses to provide students a sound background in management and administration. Students learn an in-depth understanding of the legal system and how it is associated with law, lawyers, clients, and courts. The core courses provide students with effective communication, legal, ethical, and technical skills. A total of 126 credits are needed to complete the bachelor’s degree. The courses include Introduction to Legal Assisting, Business Organizations, Legal Research, Legal Office Administration, Contract Law, Family Law, Torts, Law Office Procedures, Civil Litigation, Legal Writing, Research Methods and Decision Making, Leadership and Organizational Behavior, and Advanced Legal Research. Students must also complete a capstone project and legal studies internship. Graduates of the degree are prepared for careers in legal administration, legal assistance, business, and management training.

Herzing University is a private nonprofit institution of higher learning residing in Madison Wisconsin. It was founded in 1965 by Henry and Suzanne Herzing. It began as a computer training institute. The name changed to Herzing Institute in 1970 and Herzing College in 1996. It officially became Herzing University in 2009 after its addition of graduate programs. Federal Work Study
The Federal Work Study is a part-time employment program available to students who show financial need. Eligible students have the ability to work up to 20 hours per week to earn money to help pay for college expenses. Students must be enrolled at least half-time.
